President
Ms. Barbara Southwind is an Indigenous leader who has dedicated many years to serving First Nations communities and strengthening institutional collaboration across Northern Ontario and beyond.
Her professional experience includes work within government and justice-related environments, including service connected to the Department of Justice and programs administered under the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017. Through these roles, Ms. Southwind has worked directly with families facing complex challenges, housing authorities, and multidisciplinary service providers supporting children and individuals with complex needs.
Her experience has provided her with a deep understanding of the systemic and operational challenges affecting Indigenous communities, particularly in remote and northern regions where access to reliable services and infrastructure can be limited.
In addition to her work connected to justice-related programs, Ms. Southwind has collaborated with other government and community organizations focused on public service delivery, housing support, and community wellbeing initiatives. These experiences have shaped her leadership approach and strengthened her ability to build partnerships that address real operational needs.
Ms. Southwind’s leadership philosophy is grounded in respect, cultural responsibility, accountability, and community stewardship. Her commitment to strengthening Indigenous economic participation and building responsible procurement partnerships continues to guide the strategic direction of Wigwam Supply Chain.
